PTI Secret Sister reveal box

Hello all! It has been a while! For the last month and a half I have been participating in a PTI secret sister swap on Splitcoast. I haven't been able to post any cards because I didn't want my secret sis to catch on to who I was! So here is the final reveal package...by the time she sees this it won't matter because she will soon find out it is me!

I knew right away that I wanted to use one of PTI's egg boxes. These boxes are so sturdy!

Let me tell you a little about this package :0)

I covered the outside of the box with some cool tissue paper that my DD had gotten in a present back in February. I knew the colors would be great and the flowers are similar to some of PTI's images. I lined the inside with old olive textured CS and lined the egg holes with some PTI bitty dot paper in Razzberry Fizz (thanks to my friend Carol at splitcoast!)

I knew I was going to load up some plastic Easter eggs with some goodies. I put some flowers, buttons, brads & ribbon inside and tied them with some coordinating ribbon.

My original intent was to do six eggs, but then I saw the cutest pots at target! My secret sis is allergic to smelly stuff, so I got her veggie plants instead!

I put some die cut flowers on top of the labels to make them look like cute little plants and added them to my box.

PTI's "Bloom where you're planted" seemed to fit the whole floral feel of the box. I also wanted a button "bouquet" as part of the focal point. I put primas behind the buttons so they would have more of a flower feel to them.

I am also adding some of my secret sis's favorite treats to the package. They will fit right on top of everything in the box.

It's your Birthday!

Don't you just love getting packages in the mail?? It always feels like its a special occasion to me> No matter how many times I look over my order, anticipating the new crafty goodies I have coming, there is always that joy when the box finally arrives and I can put my inky little fingers on my new stuff!

Yesterday was no exception> I placed a Papertrey order at midnight Saturday night and my stuff in THREE DAYS!!! Like a kid in the candy store I rummaged through my new goodies.

Of note is that I ordered the new Hibiscus Burst paper and ink and buttons. Can I just say that this pink is so YUMMY?! I sat still for all about 15 minutes before cracking into that pack of paper! Usually it just goes in my office to maybe be used another day, but I just HAD to create something!

This card was totally inspired my my pink and black zebra striped phone case. I used Hibiscus Burst ink, CS and button. The zebra stripes are my favorite though! I covered the whole outside og the CS with versamark and powdered it up with black embossing powder. Then i took my trusty PC scraper (you couls use a bone folder) and scraped lines of the embossing powder off to create stripes. I finished by heating up the powder to melt it into a nice shine. A little crazy, but I like it! You can't really tell that the black is shiny in this photo (camera-phone ya know?)

I added some thin polka dot ribbon and a really cool button from the HB collection. I also trimmed a wave on the edge to break up the zebra print.

I lined the inside with some white CS and stamped "go WILD" in black and hibiscus. For an added touch I even drew stripes on the "WILD".

Day 30: Party Time!!!!

WOOOHOOOO!!!! I made it! And today is party time! Mardi Gras party that is! We are heading out to Tybee for a parade and music and just to hang out at the beach! But before I go, I had to post my 30th project!!!

This Unity butterfly reminded me of a Mardi Gras mask, so that is what I made it! I stamped it in green, yellow and purple and added lots of glittery detail, cut out the "eyes" and voila! Party mask!

I really wanted to put "Celebrate" as the sentiment, but did not have a large enough, or pretty enough font. I decided "friends" was just as appropriate, since withouth the encouragement of friends like you, I may not have made it these last 30 days!

So THANKS!!! time to go whoop it up at the beach!

Day 29: Good Luck!

I got my Stampin Success in the mail today and they had a St Patrick's Day card using the new heart punch. I have not bought the punch yet because I am on my personal challenge, but I do have a Creative Memories one. I thought I would give the idea a spin:

I used some of that pre-scored wild wasabi that I still have tons of and lots of other goodies I had lying around. The white scallop piece is actually the inside of the card. Unfortunately this meant the front piece was just a little too short to stay closed on its own! I solved that problem by attachine some wasabi striped ribbon to the back and bringing it around front to close the card. Oh, and that cute button in the center? That is one of the new ones from PTI--part of my valentine gift from the hubby!

Day 28: Girl Scout Cookies

We got our GSC today. We only ordered the new kind this year. I have been sick and was desperate for some inspiration!

This cookie box was my color inspiration.

I decided to use PTI's summer sunrise and some turquoise paper that I had in my scraps. Top that off with some white craft ink and here is what you get:

Not the best inspired card, but at least the cookies were good!

Day 27: Retro Cool

I realized today that I only made thank you cards for the children that attended E's party. I needed to make some grown up cards for the friends of the family that attended as well. But they needed something a little less cute and a lot more cool... I searched through my mounds of unused paper and came across this retro cool style:

I was immediately inspired by the shapes and colors. I used Kiwi Kiss, Tangerine Tango, Tempting Turquoise and Chocolate Chip to come up with this groovy card:

The images are from SU's Wow Flowers and Much appreciated sets. I thought the circle-starburst thing looked kinda retro and fit in with the design. I "stamped off" the ink so it would be a little more subtle.

The sentiment is stamped on Very Vanilla and matted with Chocolate Chip. I used a snippet of Tangerine Tango ribbon and a turquoise button to add some flair.

I don't think I would have typically used this color combo, but I really love how it all came together!

Day 26: A Little Note of Thanks

The birthday party was a success! And although not many kids showed up, we all had a very good time at the bowling alley! One plus to a small number of guests: less thank you cards to write! Here is just a small little thank you I came up with for E to fill out:
I was inspired by the flower print paper and went from there. The paper was thick enough to use as a base, and I just added some Regal Rose and Perfectly Plum behind the white sentiment piece.

I embossed a square around the white CS...and I have decided that I need to get those nestabilities!!! I think that will be one of my first purchases after my 30 days is through!

In the center of the "o" I punched a hole and used packing tape on the back as my adhesive for the glitter.

The over all size is 4x4. I think it will be just perfect for E to give to her little friends.

Day 25: And Now For Something Completely Different!

Hello! Today is the big day! We have a birthday party to put on! In lieu of that, my project is definitely different, and definitely not a paper craft! Most birthdays for the kids I make their cake. Today is no exception. So, for my bobblehead LPS lovin girl here it is:

This cake was a little time consuming...and I am no professional...but I think in the end it turned out well. I made a square and a round cake and put them together to make a sort of "stage" for the bobbleheads. I used toys that we already had to decorate it with her theme. This is something I always do. If they don't have a particular thing, then it gets purchased as part of their birthday gift. And although my skills are lacking, I really enjoy doing this for my kiddos! Needless to say, DD loved it and we are on our way to her big shindig now!

Day 24: Goodie Bags

Tomorrow is the big birthday party, and I am short on time. Here are the goodie bags we will be giving out to my DD party guests:

I used regular everyday lunch sacks that I had around the house and stamped them with the It's a Party set that I used for the invites. I also stamped "thanks" on the bags. For an added touch, I scalloped the bag edge and tied some ribbon through to close. Very quick and simple! And what's inside? Bubbles, gum, clackers, play doh, a squirt gun and a gel pen. I had to make the goodies as unisex as possible...plus we are going bowling, so it had to be fairly inexpensive!

Day 23: Valentine Embellishment Gift

I made a nugget tin today as a Valentine gift for a friend of mine. It is an "embellie box".

Inside I made little boxes out of 4x4 paper and filled them with brads and flowers. I also put in a couple yards of coordinating ribbon and some clear stamps from Michael's. I wrapped a simple paper band around the outside using SU's Patterns DSP. I created a scalloped square centerpiece out of Real Red and Whisper White CS.

The heart image and sentiment are from Love You Much. I added some 5/8 red grossgrain ribbon and colored some of the image with Taken With Teal. This is a real simple little gift, but I think she will love all the surprises inside!

Day 22: Birthday Card for DD

Now that all the Valentine's are done and I have more time to focus, I decided to make a birthday card for my dear daughter who turns eight on Sunday. I consider her to be girly and bright and her smile warms my heart. Here is my creation:

I knew I wanted to use a rub on image from the SU Level 3 Loop to Loop for this card. I have been drawn to Baja Breeze lately and thought this paper was a nice subtle background for the front. This paper is also from the level 3 bundle. (everything is layered onto PTI white)

I decided on a rainbow theme and pulled out some primas in the appropriate colors. The centers are antiques brass brads, which I thought went well with the Chocolate rub on.

One thing I love to do with my rub ons is add color. I colored in the letters and flower to pull the rainbow theme into the sentiment. I found this technique by mistake a while back. Turns out that if you color a rub on image, there is a little bit of a clear outline around the actual image from the rub on material...so you kinda have a white "shield" around the image where the color doesn't go. I really like the effect! (you can see another example here)

I also added a green vine rub on behind the primas for a little added depth.

This card makes me smile...just like my daughter does. I hope she likes it!

Day 21: Three Minute Birthday Invitation

Today I was in a panic as I realized that amidst all the Valentine prep I completely forgot to make invitations for my daughter's birthday party on Monday! She loves Littlest Pet Shop and can't get enough of them. I was actually going to purchase the invites, but no store around here carries that theme. So here I am, last minute, trying to whip up an invite.

Here is what I came up with:

This design literally took like 3 minutes! It actually turned out quite perfect because the animals kinda resemble the LPS with the head-bigger-than-body look. I am so thankful I bought this "It's a Party" set forever ago before it retired! This is definitely the simplest invite ever...but my daughter loved them.

And that is all that matters....

Day 20: An Oldie but a Goodie

Today I am 2/3 of the way done with my 30 day non-purchase challenge! Only 10 more days and boy am I having fun!

Today is an oldie but a goodie---Nugget Tins! My eldest DD has a Valentine's party today and she made all her own Valentines--without me. My job was to make brownies ("just regular brownies please mom, no fancy stuff") Oh the horror! So I had to find another creative outlet! Each of my children's teachers will be getting these:

I had bought a slew of tins last spring intending to use them for Father's Day. Ummm, sure I was....Anyway, I'm using them now! These Hershey's Treasures have this really pretty purple foil around them. And that was the start of my color scheme.

I lined the inner edge with Raspberry tart DSP (LOVE this stuff!) and lined the bottome with Elegant Eggplant. I did not glue anything onto or inside the tin (more on that later). Each candy is wrapped with an Avery label stamped with images from PTI's Limitless Labels. Ink is Eggplant and Rose Red.

For the outside band (again no adhesive on the tin), I scalloped the edges of a strip of Rose red card stock and placed a strip of Raspberry tart in the center. I then formed it around the tin and used sticky strip to glue the ends together.

The largest flowers I had were yellow, so I dyed them with white craft ink and embossed them with white embossing powder for extra measure. I still love the way embossed flowers look.

The flower's center is three elements: a 3/4" Rose Red CS circle, a large SU Filigree brad with a SU purple rhinestone center (Round Ice collection).

The flower focal point didn't really say "Valentine's Day" to me, so I stamped a cute little tag from the Happy Heart Day set on Rose Red CS with Elegant Eggplant ink. I colored the hearts with a white gel pen. The TEACHER sentiment is from Limitless Labels and is white craft stamped on elegant eggplant. I tied the tag to the flower with linen thread. My DD name and the date are on the reverse side of the tag.

I also intend on placing a note on the inside bottom focusing on "REDUCE REUSE RECYCLE" instructing them on ways they can reuse their tins (bake a goodie, fill it up, etc). This is why I did not use any adhesive. I wanted them to be able to take apart the whole thing and reuse it as they saw fit.

As for how I did it...it was really easy. The inside of the tin has a lip that helps keep the top of the lining in place. The CS bottom is cut to fit inside snugly, therefore holding the bottom of the lining in place as well. Unfortunately, I don't remember the height measurement, but I know I cut it just slightly shorter that the height of the tin!

Day 19: Little Bit of This, Little Bit of That

Today's project is a little bit of a few things. It started with a sketch, continued with chipboard (and more buttons!), rallied around Nichole's "signature" announcement and commenced with a sewing mishap.

Now I usually don't blog hop and do sketch challenges, but every once in a while something catches my eye. A couple of days ago, Nichole posted a link on her blog to a CPS sketch-- which I dutifully ignored. But a lot of you out there did not. And I took notice. The CPS sketch:

I guess what caught me was the large heart image. I immediately knew I wanted to use one of my chipboard hearts for my interpretation. That led me to my next dilemma: ink. I love the way craft ink covers chipboard--I just don't have a large selection in my stock to choose from. Seriously..like maybe 5 colors! I chose retired Baroque Burgundy.

Dilemma #2: PAPER! I had no CS in this retired color. Luckily I did have some of this groovy gold/burgundy stuff lying around. Crisis averted.

So, I am off and running...ink up the chipboard, add a snazzy accent and button, punch a scallop edge. OOPS- punch doesn't work well on this groovy stuff! Get out the scissors!

Now we are rolling along....Remember that "signature" announcement? Well I thought it would be neat to add my own flair to this card and hand write my own sentiment--OOPS again! I do not have any markers to match!!! Thankfully, I remembered that somewhere in my vast stash of neglected scrapbooking materials I have some CM markers! And there is a color there! (P.S. How do ya like my sentiment???)

After all that, I finally think I am done with my card when the embellishment monster comes. Anyone else know this guy? He sits right next to your ear and says "Doesn't that {project, card, tin, page...} need something??? How about RIBBON!!!!" (or bling, or stickles, or buttons, or...) Am I the only one? Well he pounced again, and I had this ribbon....so....of course I had to use it! But tying it was no good for this card! Oh no, no, no! I had to sew it on!

So, if you look closely you can see mishap #5 (have you been counting?). Yeah, it's there. I am obviously not the sewing-on-cards queen....

After everything, I really don't think the end result is half bad. And I like the looks of my sentiment...

Day 18: Friends Forever

Images are all PTI, stamped in Chocolate Chip, Ripe Avocado and Baja Breeze. I attempted to do Nichole's button-ribbon-thingy but mine didn't turn out as well as hers! Green rhinestones are in the center of the small flowers and the large Spiral Bouquet flowers are adorned with cinnamon Stickles. PTI white card stock, Baja Breeze cardstock and some yummy satin chocolate chip ribbon from SU. Button is Old Olive.

Day 17: Buttons

Nichole announced on her blog that PTI will now be selling BUTTONS!!! So in honor of that announcement, and as a way to clear out some room for those fabulous finds, I have made a project with BUTTONS!

Not a whole lot to say here. I wanted to use buttons! The paisley-ish print is some scrap paper I had from Hobby Lobby. The buttons are from Walmart I think. The gathered ribbon is from SU, but I am pretty sure it is retired. Base is textured Very Vanilla from SU andthe sentiment is PTI stamped in Berry Sorbet.

Day 16:Reduce, Reuse Recycle PTI Swap

I was so busy today that I did not have time to participate in Nichole's sketch challenge! So I am posting the cards I have made for the PTI round 2 swap on Splitcoast. I signed up for the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle portion of the swap and if I understand it correctly, the cards should have the same layout, but not necessarily the same colors.

The first thing I did was go through my scraps and look for any cardstock that was already cut down to standard card size. This dictated my base colors. I then looked through my DSP scraps to find coordinating designs. The scraps I found mostly had floral type designs so I scoured my small collection of PTI stamps for anything that resembled the designs found in the DSP. I used the same leaf image on all the cards and just substituted different shaped flowers to go with the DSP. I used flower shapes from Honey Bees, Beautiful Blooms, and Little Lady to name a few. Each card has a scrap ribbon bow and each card has stickles added to the flowers. For the sentiments, I used some acrylic word tiles that I have had FOREVER. They needed some love! In two cases, I did not have tiles to match, so I stamped a sentiment in coordinating colors and used a clear 3-D sticker to make my own tile. This can be seen on the "wish" and "for you" cards. This swap really inspired me to reach for those scrap boxes first for inspiration...and it was right up my alley for the 30 day non-purchase challenge!

Some of them I think turned out really nice, others maybe not so much...leave me a comment and let me know which on is your favorite!

Day 15: Somewhere Over the Rainbow

Well, Nichole at Papertrey has done it again! Another great contest with another great prize! Today's blog challenge is to use a rainbow of colors. The reward? One lucky winner will receive a year's worth of PTI card stock FREE!!!!
This challenge really inspired me to do something I have been thinking about for a while: RAINBOW FROGS!!!

Now I am sure this is not a "new" idea, and I am sure someone somewhere has probably done the same sort of thing, but I have not taken the opportunity until now to play with this sort of image and colors.

I did not have every PTI color, so I did have to substitute Baja Breeze for Ocean Tides. I also used Real Red ink instead of Pure Poppy. It's a little brighter than the paper...

With this card I decided to keep it simple. I knew I wanted the frog layout (aren't they cute???) and I decided to do a rainbow mat. Once I put that on some white cardstock I didn't really think it needed anything more! Believe me- I played with the idea of ribbon, glitter and rainbow words! I think the black sentiment is just perfect.

With Nichole putting out these challenges everyday, I am having no problem creating something new for my 30 day challenge! I may just have to extend it to 60....Oh, and that cute little frog? He's from PTI's Pond Life-one of my very favorite sets!

Day 14: Going for the Gold

Today I am going for the gold! Papertrey Ink is celebrating 2 years in the biz and has awesome giveaways every day! Nichole announced on her blog today that Papertrey Ink will be at the CHA Craft Super show in Orlando this year! I am way excited because I only live a few hours away and this is my opportunity to go and get some hands on time with PTI product!

In celebration of this announcement, Nichole is offering a contest-the prize being a one of a kind PTI bag and a $100 gift certificate!!! Here is my entry that I whipped together this morning...

I found this bee fabric before Christmas and knew I had to get some! I sewed a simple little Valentine tote and filled it with heart shaped chocolates. I used PTI's Honey Bees and Limitless Labels for the border. The bee is stamped in PTI's Summer Sunrise; the hearts are Berry Sorbet. "Bee Mine" is stamped with Jet Black Staz-on. Red zigzag ribbon handle is from SU.

Wish me luck! I sure could use that prize for my trip to CHA in July!!!!

Day 13: Simplicity

Today's project comes from a sketch on my friend Sara's blog. I am happy to take part in this sketch challenge especially today of all days when I am under the weather and overwhelmed with housework! This card speaks simplicity...

This is done on PTI white CS with Brilliant Blue and Tempting Turquoise CS strips. The green is two strips of polka dot ribbon that came from some craft store. The sentiment is from SU and is stamped in Green Galore.

Day 12: Dedicated to the one I Love

So, remember how I said I found a place for my chipboard?? Well today's project came out of that task. My plan was to put my alphas in that jar but I actually have too many! But I did discover some letters that I wanted to use!

Today's card is an extra special 5x7 for my wonderful husband. I am so pleased about how this turned out that I am keeping it a secret from him til Valentine's day!

I used some absolutely yummy Dark Chocolate card stock from PTI. For the background I used the large image from Kind Thoughts and stamped it on the front and the back. I LOVE this image!!! I used versamagic ink in Wheat...which I thought worked beautifully on the rich brown background.

The chipboard x's are the negatives from SU Timeless type chipboard and the o's are some chipboard from Hobby Lobby that I have had forever. I originally sponged the Wheat ink onto the x's, but decided chocolate would look better. That is why the chocolate color seems to be muted.

The beautiful DSP is from SU's Bella Rose collection and contains Pink Pirouette. The bottom edge was punched with a scallop edge and then pierced with a hole punch in each scallop. I added some Pretty in Pink CS strips that I had stamped in Wheat with the background image. I ran the wider strip through the crimper to add some texture. It kinda looks like some ribbon SU used to have...

The sentiment is from SU, though I don't remember the exact name. I first stamped it in Pretty in Pink then shadowed it in Chocolate Chip, but I am not sure anyone can really tell.

I plan on writing a really sweet poem on the inside and maybe even putting a picture of us in there too. I think this is one of the most elegant and beautiful cards I have ever created on my own and I think the 5x7 size makes it that much more so.

Day 11: Finishing Touches

After pondering over my new storage system I decided the jars just weren't done yet....

Ahhhh, much better! I used SU Prints DSP in Rose Red, Almost Amethyst, Apricot Appeal, Certainly Celery, Pretty in pink, Bashful Blue and So Saffron for the lids and band around the middle. I then used my pink Marvy scallop oval punch to punch coordinating labels. These are stamped with Paper Studio's Writer's Type alpha. I also ran a length of white 1/4" grossgrain around the lid base. I haven't decided if I should color the ribbon or not...maybe if I ever get the jars glued to something...

And as for my old flower jar??? It now holds all of my chipboard shapes. Now to get some organization for my chipboard letters...What's a girl to do?

Day 11: Storage Solution

Today I decided to sort out all of the little flower embellishments that I have. Not a totally new concept, but a simple creative venture. I used to keep all of my flowers mixed in one big jar:

Now I have sorted them into baby food jars by color....

Challenge day 10: Football....?

Okay, first let me say that I am NOT a football fan and could not care less who wins the big game. That being said, I took the two teams that are playing and sought some inspiration. Let me just say that a red bird did nothing for me....the Steelers logo however was a little better. The following card is a VERY loose interpretation of that logo...and I have no idea what use this card could possibly have....

It all started with the primary squares on a black, white & gray background. The white was too stark so I added the pennant image from Sock Monkey. Then I needed some sort of wording so I covered some chipboard with black glitter. Ugh. Rah rah rah- if the Steelers lose it will be due to this card! Anyhow-that's day 10.

Day 9: Bubble Wrap & Bling

Today I focused on trying to make a simple one-layer card....but then I changed my mind! Instead I used a new technique: stamping with bubble wrap! No kidding! and sooooo easy....take a peek:

The polka dots are my bubble wrap "stamp". I inked the wrap with Tempting Turquoise and then "kissed" it with Green Galore. Then I laid it on my white card stock. I made sure to press down on each bubble so the image would transfer.

The sentiment is a Michael's $1 stamp. I thought the bling on the border really fit with the "live it up" theme. Card stock is Green Galore and PTI White.

Day 8: You Are My Sunshine

My friend was telling me the other day that I have too many stamps (is that even possible?!?) I had to agree that I have too many I don't use! My SU sets get the most love I think because they take up more room-they are hard to miss! I sometimes have to remind myself that I also have clear stamps too!

Today I was browsing my clear stamp collection and came across a stamp that I absolutely adored but had never used. I bought it at Michael's for $1 and it says "You are my sunshine". I used to sing this to my son when he was little and when I saw this stamp I immediately thought of uses for it. Of course, when I got home it was thrown in with the rest of the pile!

So today I put a smile on my face and put my sunshine stamp to use!

I have to tell you that I LOVE these red daisies that I picked out for my kitchen. My plan is to use red and yellow in my kitchen's color scheme, but have yet to find artwork or anything I am happy with. Today I may have found a solution!

I think the simplicity of the card is fabulous. Sometimes simple really is better. I actually made the card and then realized how similar it was to my daisies! For just a little extra something I painted yellow Stickles into the word sunshine.

I think painting the Stickles added a subtlety to the shimmer in the letters instead of overwhelming them with 3D glitter effects.

The red flower is a Die Cut Bloom from SU. The button is just a generic yellow one that I think I got at Walmart. I used Riding Hood red ink for the sentiment, Yoyo Yellow CS, and PTI white cardstock for the card base.

Day 7: Second Grade Valentine's

Already the daily blog grind is becoming easier! Today I got to stamp with friends- and stampin is always better with friends! I knew what I wanted to work on, so it was no problem to chat and stamp at the same time!

Part of the whole point of this 30 day challenge is to use what you have on hand and today is no exception! I bought prescored packs of Wild Wasabi cardstock from SU forever ago figuring that if nothing else it would be some extra stock of that yummy color....Well today I have put it to use! These are the treats we will be giving to my second grader's class for Valentine's Day....

In addition to the prscored (how easy is that!?) card stock I also used a new DSP called Raspberry Tart. I absolutely LOVE this paper! I used one of the more chromatic designs for this card. The large heart in the middle is from a new set called Love You Much. I stamped the image in Rose red then colored the flowers Cameo Coral. The dots were colored Wild Wasabi green.

I thought it would be cool to cover the heart in Crystal Effects to give it an epoxy 3D texture. When I did this, my colors kinda ran together and the green in the dots practically disappeared. My solution was to redo the dots in Lime Green Stickles after the CE dried. I mounted the heart on a wasabi mat and adhered it using dimensionals.

The ribbon is some 1" Rose Red grossgrain that I thought was retired but realized today is luckily still available. To finish off the flap at the top, I stamped a rose red sentiment from Toucan of my Love onto a strip of cameo coral and used the scallop punch on the flap edge. I also detailed the little hearts with a white gel pen. DD got home from school and loved it....MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!

Challenge: Day 6 For My Valentine

For today's project I just made a simple little valentine for my hubby...I prefer something a little cutesy for him. This gave me a chance to use my scraps as inspiration and I used retired In Colors for this. The Happy Valentine's Day sleeve could also be used for a mini candy bar too. I love the Zoofari set on this!

Challenge: Day Four - Faux Mosaic

Whew! Boy did I start today's project late! But I finished before my deadline, so YAY me! Since I have been spending more time on the computer lately I have been checking out more blogs, too. I was looking at Jessica's Stampergarten the other day and saw THIS card using a faux mosaic technique. Hmmmm....never tried that one before, seems simple enough, so I went for it. I was very careful to only use the technique and not CASE anything directly and here is what I came up with:

I started this project somewhere around 9 pm and it took me nearly three hours to complete. That is mostly because I decided to do a flower with tons of little pieces...and I wasn't sure on the design. I am learning that it sometimes takes me FOREVER to get a new idea down in paper! I sure hope this 30 day challenge exercises my brain well enough that I will become much faster at this!

Here are the details: The whole flower image was pieced by me. I cut basic shapes down into smaller pieces to create the image, then embossed with light blue embossing powder in all the open areas. I used the scallop edge punch to make a frame on the side and put a cardstock sticker strip in the window to peek out. I mounted the Friend sentiment on white and red ovals using brads. Overall, I kinda like this card! It makes me happy! I will try to find solid adhesive sheets next time though...all I had was strips of Tacky Tape which left a sort of picket fence effect in the embossing. It sorta adds some charm though, don't ya think???

Colors used: Wild Wasabi, Bashful Blue, Real Red & So Saffron

As most people know, I am a reality TV junkie. Seriously. I watch so much reality TV it's not funny! One of my current fixations is vh1's Confessions of a Teen Idol. The show itself is rather silly, but one of my personal teenage idol's is on that show. Want proof??

Here is a pic taken 10 years ago of my hubby and me in LAX airport with Jamie Walters (now on COATI):

Can I just say that I was utterly starstruck at this point?!? I know some of you may be thinking "who is that?" But let me tell you...I knew and I loved him!

A little background: Jamie Walters was in a movie called Shout with John Travolta. He also starred in a TV series called The Heights (my personal favorite!) which was on either before or after 90210 back in like 1991-1992. Still not ringin a bell? He also had a hit song "How Do You Talk To An Angel" which was also the theme of The Heights. Nothing, huh? Okay well, for all you 90210 fans out there-he also played Ray Pruit, Donna's abusive guitar playing beau who threw her down the stairs....DING DING DING! That got it, huh? Many people remember that character...but that is a shame.

So I find myself tuning into vh1 to see how Jamie's "return to fame" will work out. He is a firefighter EMT now with a wife and some gorgeous kiddos and he is trying to get back into the music biz. I wish him the best. And I will be tuned in to see how it all turns out!

Challenge:Day Three Baptism Page

Here we are on Day 3 of my 30 day creativity challenge. While doing yesterday's project I realized that I had a whole set of felt flowers that I had NEVER EVEN OPENED!! How many of you do this? I am constantly buying stuff that I think is neat only to have it sit (in this case in a jar) for months without a second glance. Another reason I think this 30 day challenge will help me!

I decided yesterday that I really wanted to use some of those felt flowers on today's project. I also decided I would make a scrapbook page. It's been FOREVER since I attempted any sort of scrapbooking! Needless to say, it took me a little longer than planned. The only thing that didn't change was the felt flowers. I Changed my mind on everything from the background paper to the pictures! Note to self: when scrapbooking, stick to what you do best! In my case it is taking inspiration from my photos NOT some embellishment of the day!

So after many "rewrites" my page turned out like so (click on pic to enlarge):

Admittedly, this is not the typical colors I would have thought to do a baptism page in. I do not mind them though...a little non-traditional. My plan is to journal a bible verse into the large orange flower...but I am not sure that is enough. Although I really like my chipboard "I" I can't help but think it is missing something...it seems to stick out like a sore thumb...

So please feel free to leave any suggestions you may have...If I use any of them I will post the finished page at a later date.

Day Two: More Shower Inspiration

I am pleased to bring you day two's project, again inspired by a bottle in my shower. Here is my inspiration...

And here is the result (drumroll please)...

I was downstairs when I made this so I forgot that the lettering on the bottle was actually black. I don't mind the blue so much. I used Bashful Blue with some brocade blue on the background image and Ballet Blue for the sentiment. I finally pulled out a couple of flowers from my collection and put them to good use! And I gotta tell you about that white one! It is just an ordinary flower-probably prima if I had to guess-but here's the WOW: I embossed it! And I LOVE how the embossing brings almost a plastic shiny quality to the bloom. Here is a closer look (albeit blurry I am sure):

Can you see the shine? There is a little light reflecting off the top petals.

I learned this little trick when I went to the SU Regional in Orlando a couple of weeks ago. I would have never thought to emboss a flower! You can emboss the fabric ones (like in the Pretties kit) too! They said you dont even have to use versamark..just get it wet and but some embossing powder on it!

How cool is that? I don't know what it is about these little 4x4 cards, but I am really starting to like the size...

30 day challenge: Day 1- INSPIRE ME!

Today has been very busy. The kids are running around like crazy, the laundry is piled up, the house is a complete mess....but I got through day one!
I was so excited about challenging myself that my mind has been racing for the past 24 hours. Matter of fact, last night as I showered all I could see was inspiration! I never realized how interesting some of my toiletry bottles are! It took all I had not to run downstairs at 10 pm and put my idea into use. And here is what it was:

Part of my Christmas from my children was some Peppermint shower gel they had given me. As I lathered up last night I noticed how striking the bottle was....not only the black and white, but also the silver and clear. And if I layered those concepts......

Voila! A card for my first challenge day! As usual, the picture is a bit blurry! I either need to a) improve my photo skills or b) GET A NEW CAMERA!!! This is driving me insane! Anyway....

This is a 4x4 note card done in black and white and then overlaid with some silver embossed transparency. The black mat was placed under the transparency while the white focal point was placed on top. I attached the two elements together with black brads. And I am not sure if you can tell, but I did a little dry embossing around the image to make it stand out.

I really had fun putting my idea into a card and already have my eyes on another soap bottle for tomorrow's project! Tune in next time...

Workshop Project #2: Rub Ons

I absolutely love rub ons! This month SU has them on SALE! So, to boost sales at my upcoming workshop I am featuring a project using rub ons for the sentiment. I am using the level three hostess set for this project, so I am limited as to the number of like sentiments available. My solution? Three different versions of the same card! By using the double sided DSP I have tripled my options and made a card that can be changed to whatever the stamper desires.

Here are my choices: (I have left off the sentiments as to not waste the precious rub ons! Just imagine Chocolate Chip sentiments on the bottom DSP)

This project was so easy! I literally used the same supplies for each card! I think it is really cool how you can flip the DSP for either Snowflakes or Stripes. And the stamp set included in the Level 3 pack has 4 different images which gives you more options! I could have also stuck with just one ink color, making it even more cost effective. I am really excited about this project!

Back In The Saddle

WOW! It feels so good to be back to crafting! I have revisited some of my old haunts (SCS) and have decided to join the PTI recipe card swap. Here is my creation:I still want to put a googlie eye on the turtle. I think I got this recipe from my friend Jen...Here are the deets-

Paper: SU Chocolate Chip, Certainly Celery & Whisper White
Ink: SU Certainly Celery & Palette Giverny green
Accessories: SU 5/8" Chocolate Chip Grossgrain& retired Beachfront ribbon; SU green beads (hand sewn!)
Other: Computer font for recipe

This recipe is really easy and delicious! Here is an alternate form:

Turtle Stix:

Pretzel rods
Caramels
Baker's chocolate or semi-sweet morsels
Chopped pecans

Melt caramels. Coat pretzels half way down with melted caramel. Let cool. Melt Chocolate and dip caramel side of pretzel stick in to coat. Roll in chopped pecans and let cool. YUM!

Four Hour Project

I am so glad to be back where I have a little time I can carve out to create. Today I straightened up my office. Of course, once I got it clean I had to mess it up again! I decided to start om teacher projects. I am totally casing the jumbo clothes pin from the Stampin' Up F/W Idea Book!

For some reason I really stink lately at taking pictures. They all turn out blurry! I think it's time for a new camera! LOL

I don't have the teacher set, so I used the elephant from that Valentine set that was out a while back...Paper is Summer Picnic, ribbon is Real Red 5/8" grossgrain...

So here is where my quick project turned into a FOUR hour fiasco! I had about an inch and a half of red ribbon left. I decided that instead of tossing it I was going to incorporate it into a really quick card. Well, four hours later I had a card---and didn't even use the ribbon! This must be why it takes me so long to get scrapbook pages done...

It's not a bad card per se, but I don't think it was worth four hours! Summer picnic is there again, plus die cut blossoms and striped grossgrain ribbon. I also beaded some sticky strip at the bottom and in the center of the flower. The charm letters have been colored in with a gel pen.

Sick Day, Crafty Day

Today my eldest daughter stayed home from school. Apparently she caught the same nasty bug that my middle daughter had over the weekend. Needless to say, most of my usual daily activities were put on hold. This lent me time to CRAFT!!! WOOHOOO!!

As some of you may know, I have not been very crafty at all since our big move to the Peach State. Today I believe my doldrums have dissipated! It's sort of a weak attempt, but I got THREE cards done today! I already mailed one, so I only have two pictures to post...

This is actually my second card that I made...It started with the ribbon, which I decided might make a cool checkerboard pattern if I lined it up side by side. Then I found some colors that would work-Pacific Point & Real Red. I did the pattern on the blue and decided to scallop the edge. That on white was too boring so I added a red mat. Still needed something, so I added the beaded staples to the side. After that it kinda got away from me! Next came a chipboard star...then the glitter....then a punch with some brads...I finally had to stop before it took on a life of it's own! Not my best work...I am sure we can give it to someone at their birthday....

This butterfly card was actually the first one I did. (Well, actually the second copy of the first card I did) My first design had a little more bling and some green ribbon as well. I was inspired to do this card from the cool butterfly stamp that my dear friend sent me. It is by Unity Stamps and I like it!

I totally envisioned a multi-colored insect with this stamp and used the baby wipe technique to make a background. As pretty as the background was, I felt the focal point needed more POP to it, so I stamped the image in black over a baby wipe streaked background. I used Kiwi Kiss, Pink Pirouette, So Saffron and Baja Breeze on the baby wipe. I used Pacific Point card stock to really contrast against the lighter shades of the background. THANKS is stamped in Pacific Point and is one of the monogram alphabets from Papertrey Ink. I also used Stickles on the butterfly body to add just a hint of sparkle.

That was my crafty adventure for today! My new house has officially been "glitter-fied"! Boy that stuff gets everywhere!!!

Name Frame part deux

I finally finished the other frame I have been commissioned to do. Obviously it's a Fighting Irish thing....Not sure what else I could've done...I wanted it to look inspired by the Fighting Irish, but not too literal.

The letters were all hand cut (three times!) with a hobby blade and matted. I got some really cool football paper from Hobby Lobby for the background. My goal was to make it look kinda like a college pennant. Hope I accomplished it!!

A week in the life??? Canceled

Ratings were low...Show was canceled. LOL So much for my week in the life! I just recently got back from DC where I had a lot of fun. And today, while recuperating from my trip, I actually got CRAFTY!!!!

So my friend Jen is doing this on her blog and I thought I would join too. Right now my life seems rather mundane with volunteering, housework, kids to school, blah blah blah. I am hoping this will make me appreciate the little everyday things and make me feel like I am doing something meaningful, even if I am not being very crafty right now.

So my first life snapshot:Taken with my camera phone on a stretch of road coming back onto post. The kids and I visited dear hubby this evening. He is away at school for 2 weeks. This long stretch of road makes me feel:

Finally we are moved in!!!!

After three months of waiting we are finally in our new house with all of our stuff! I am starting to feel like I am officially home. There are still boxes to be unpacked and pictures to be hung, but we are here!

Needless to say, I have had NO creative time yet---so I have decided to share some highlights from our first few months here in Georgia. Let me say that it is HOT and muggy! But it seems to be a nice area of the country and I think we are going to like it here!!!!

Kaylee and Bella's SeaWorld Birthday

About a month after we got to Georgia, my eldest and youngest daughters celebrated a birthday. We decided to treat them to Seaworld...and breakfast with Elmo. Bella was terrified of the characters at first, but warmed up to them just in time to share a pic with the red guy!

Aren't they adorable???

All of the kids had a lot of fun!

Jory's First Fish

The older girls went to Alabama at the end of June to visit Mamaw and Papaw. Jory got some well deserved quality time with mom and dad. We went to the beach and while there Dad took Jory fishing on the pier-his first time ever! Jory just wanted to catch a fish (any fish!) and he did!!! Here is his first catch (a whiting):

Oma and PawPaw's Visit (4th of July)

While the girls were still out of town (two weeks!), Oma and PawPaw came for a visit. Other than the normal Fourth of July activities, we also took them to Savannah to see the city.
We walked all over the historic district and when it was time to eat, we had dinner at the Pirate's House.
We had some really good food and after dinner even got a tour from legendary pirate Capt. Jack Sparrow.
Who needs Disney? This guy was great! And Jory thought he was so cool!!!

The end of summer--School begins

School started back at the beginning of August. The kids got settled in their new surroundings and I finally had a little time to breathe. My dad came for a visit at the end of August-just in time for Labor Day and just in time to see our new house. With all the kids in school I actually got to spend some quality time with dad. We headed to Tybee Island in his Miata convertible and visited the Tybee Lighthouse. Dad convinced me to climb with him to the top and I did- all 178 steps!!! The view was fantastic! I was so glad he suggested this trip. I probably would have never visited the lighthouse otherwise. Now I plan to go back with Michael and all the kids....

So, that was our summer! I hope everyone else's was as fun as ours...maybe when the house is finished I can finally carve out some craft time! Until then......

Still in transition...

Well, hello all! I know it's been FOREVER since I posted! Our move was successful, however we are still in "temporary" housing til we can get on post. Our rental house is furnished, and nice, but all of our creature comforts are still in storage. Because of this, I am only able to get on a computer (at the library) ONCE A WEEK!!!! Ugh! And so, my internet travels have been next to nil...

We have had some exciting adventures already since arriving in Georgia, and I can't wait to share them all with you! But untill then (when we finally have a computer at home!), this is me signing off for a while...(sniff...sniff)

On the road again....

We are a military family. And military families move.

This week we head to our new post in Georgia. The family is pretty excited, but nervous too! There are still some ends to tie up before the movers come and this will be my last post for a while! I can't wait to finally get on the road instead of being in "waiting" mode. So check back in a few weeks when I will chronicle our journey South....and speaking of chronicle, I need to take the kids to see Prince Caspian. Anyone seen it yet???

About a year ago I made my cousin's daughter some framed art for her bedroom. I took the colors she was decorating with and incorporated them into the picture. This was my first attempt at framed art. The results:

My cousin must have liked how it turned out because this year she requested another one for her other daughter. It took some time for me to get over my creative hump, but I finally finished it and sent it off today! So, by special request, here is my attempt at framed art (part 2):

Forget Stamping...This is WAY better!

So, I had decided to do stamped candles for all the moms in our life. And then I came up with something BETTER! I thought...why not have the kids draw pictures and put those on a candle??? BINGO! I hit jackpot! The kids created some lovely projects for their godmothers. I am so happy I thought of this!!! These are candles from Walmart. I think they are about 6" high and cost around $7. I used the same steps as stamping on candles...but had the kids draw with markers instead!

Leftovers Redeux

I am still working on leftover pieces from stamp clubs! I think this is my final attempt though...I call this "leftovers redeux" because I took the basic shapes and added more to them. Here is the original scratch n sniff card:

Lemonade from lemons...

Today's personal task was to take more leftovers from past card club meetings and finish them. In the process, I went to stamp an image that was supposed to be amethyst but turned out more green & yellow due to the fact I had not cleaned my stamp! So, what do ya do when stamping hands you a lemon???? You design a new card around it! Here is my original creation (that I was trying to duplicate)...

And here is my Lemonade....

The colors may be a little off due to the scanner (those are copper brads in the flower center), but I think I like the new version better than the old! I can't believe how different this card looks...and it all started with a mistake! Go figure.

Leftovers

Today I had the honor of teaching my downline's monthly Stamp Club. We made Mother's Day gift sets for the upcoming holiday. One thing that always seems to get the better of me is leftovers. You know....as you prepare for a class you cut your materials, etc. and, if you are like me, cut extra "just in case" something goes wrong...and then at the end there is usually a few pre-made items left over. Well today I had left over stamped tissue paper that we had used for our candles (I had pre-stamped the images to save time). I decided that I must put them to good use now instead of storing them for a later purpose---which I would normally have done!

I recently saw a technique called faux silk on Linda's blog and thought this would be the perfect opportunity to try it out. Here is what I made...

The stamped images are the leftover tissue paper from today's class. Using the same color palette, I worked two totally different cards from the images. Not bad for a bunch of leftovers, I'd say!

WOW! It has been a while! I have been busy, busy, busy preparing for our move next month! Where does the time go??

Today my topic is Mother's Day. I just finished a gift project that I am absolutely in love with. I think I will make one for every "mom" in my family!

The set includes a handmade memo board for the fridge, a hand stamped candle and a cute little basket for Mom. I have yet to make a coordinating card, but I am sure I will! I also have not decided what I will fill the basket with. Tea...chocolates...tiny flowers??

Another Baby Card

I got an email from a friend today reminding me about a swap I had joined while in CA. OOPS! I had totally forgotten! I needed to make 10 cards using SU materials. Luckily, they are not due (yet!) so I had time to knock them out today! I have to thank Chris for the inspiration...I CASED this card from her! So here it is, and it's another baby card! (what is it with the babies on the brain??!!??)
I know this looks REALLY pink, but I actually used Groovy Guava Textured card stock and DSP. The lighter card stock is actually Blush Blossom. I was surprised by how well it went with the lighter stripes in the DSP.

I used Certainly Celery ribbon and ink and green beads on the scallop (Marvy-pink one).
The ribbon at the top is Groovy Guava with the stitching removed. The polka dots are from my Three for You punch box (stamped with Groovy Guava ink) and the moon image is from So Many Scallops. This is just a basic pocket card. You can find instructions here.

Rub On...and on...and on..

Today's challenge on Splitcoast was to use rub-ons. I have been a big fan of rub ons for a while now. I love adding them to scrap book pages, cards, frames...really anything I can get my hands on! So here is my submission:

This card used no stamps at all-just rub ons. Pay special attention to the butterfly. I dry embossed a circle into the center of my scallop and applied the butterfly image. I then sponged ink over the image leaving a really neat white outline around the butterfly. Hope you enjoy!

Inspiration

What inspires you??? Maybe a picture, a quote, your kids? Browsing through the Splitcoast challenges the other day, I decided I needed some inspiration. There were many good ideas...one was finding inspiration in your home. I looked around...NOPE. No inspiration here. At least not on that day. I remembered seeing a card that was inspired by a catalog picture of bedding and I thought..."Now THAT'S an idea!" So I went to JCPenney.com to look at bedding. Something tugged at me when I ran across this set:
I don't know if it was the colors...I think it was the wavy pattern that got me thinking. I have one of the old Creative Memories 12 inch decorative cutters and knew I could make a similar pattern with it. So off I went!
Here's what I created:
I may have gone a little overboard with the glitter (thanks splitcoast bling challenge!), but I think it turned out okay. Here are the details:

Paper: Eggplant, Amethyst, Lilac, Gable Green, Whisper White

Babies, Babies, Babies

I have not posted anything in a while...Today's thought is...BABIES! It just occurred to me that there has been a lot of talk lately about babies! My cousin is due in a couple of months, a friend is having twins; the topic has come up whether or not I will be adding to my brood (and when!)...Just seems like a lot of baby talk lately! So I got on Splitcoast today and realized I had not yet done a card using the Chalkboard technique.

So, I take a look at my stamp collection and after noticing my lack of bold images I fall upon Wild About You. I don't use this set near as often as I should and I thought-"Hey, let's use this." I decided to go with a baby theme. I did a pink elephant and a blue giraffe. I guess they turned out alright...it appears I wasn't as inspired as I thought I was! LOL

So here's the deets: Pretty in Pink and Bashful Blue DSP matched with Close to Cocoa and Whisper White card stock. Added some green beads and Certainly Celery ink to the giraffe card; Taffeta ribbon, gingham ribbon to the elephant card. Polka dots were done with a versamarker, white gel pen accents. That's about it!

Hope one of you out there gets inspired to make something for a new little someone!

California Dreamin'

So.....I just got back from a CA visit with my good friend Brandy. We had a really good time playing catch up for the five days I was there. Some things I did...

Went to IKEA for the first time ever!!! I absolutely LOVE this store! And it's HUGE!!

I got some really cute things here. I only wish there were an IKEA closer to me! (That's Brandy and me in front of the store..)

And finally...Old Sacramento. This place was pretty neat. We went here just before the airport on my last day.

So...I signed up for a coffee and tea swap on Splitcoast. I am really excited because we have a local coffee shop that actually sells "Screaming Eagle" blend coffee in honor of the 101st. I thought this would be a perfect time to share something rather unique. Here is the card and coffee I am sending. The only thing not pictured is the mug and Kona coffee cookies from the Honolulu Cookie Company (see their website here...). I just LOVE those cookies! I think everyone should have them once in their life!

And here is the tea swap...
I am putting cute little teacup candle holders with a Wasabi Ginger votive, stickers and a couple of single serve packs of tea. The little tea card is done in close to cocoa using Like it a Latte from Stampin' Up. I used crystal effects on the "tea" in the cup and added a stamped lemon wedge from Tart n Tangy. I am really pleased at how this turned out. I think the little pop of pink on the card really helps it coordinate with the candle holder.

American Idol

I am a confessed reality TV junkie. Sure, Idol is pretty mainstream.. but I have been known to watch a LOT of reality C*R*A*P (Truth about Miriam anyone??) So I must comment on last night's show.First of all...let me just say that the Beatles are one of my top 3 bands of all time. My dad got me into them as a small child and I have loved them ever since. Needless to say, last night was very exciting to me! I think poor Kristy Lee Cook is done for...why didn't she sing "They're Gonna Put Me in the Movies" or something that was a little country anyway?? I think she really tore up 8 Days a Week--BAD! And Chikezie---WHERE DID THIS GUY COME FROM????? All of a sudden it's like BAM! I believe he did better than anyone last night. So, there is my top and bottom performances of last night. Everyone else is somewhere in between:

David Cook-risky, but I loved it!
David Archuletta-Poor thing...what was he thinking? and after he did so well with Imagine...
Amanda Overmyer-Would have loved her to do "Oh, Darlin" but good job nonetheless.
Aussie Michael and Dreds (Jason Castro)-I feel both did well, but played it safe. Song choice alone will get them through since "Across the Universe" recently came out on DVD and all the teeny boppers who loved that movie will vote for them.
Carly Smithson-Another one who totally rocked! LOVE what she did!
Syesha-Good, but I thought it wasn't great
Ramiele-BORING!!!! But her voice sounded pretty
David Hernandez-Ummm, no. Please go home. He is not one of my favorites, but he has a good voice.
Brooke White-not her best performance, but an emotional "Let It Be." I was kinda surprised by her song choice.

So who do I think is going home??? Kristy and David Hernandez. But only because David Archuletta's fanbase is HUGE!

PTI Round 5 Swap...SPOILER ALERT!

My first (stamp) love is, and probably will always be, Stampin Up. But not too long ago a friend introduced me to Papertrey Ink's clear stamps and I must say they are a VERY close second! I do not have many sets yet so I like to join the PTI swaps on Splitcoast. The funny thing is, I am ALWAYS a last minute person! This swap is due April 30 and I actually have both my cards done AND sent off! Totally not typical for me! Here are the two cards I have created for Round #5:

I was inspired to do a kind of "brick" layout because I decided I MUST find another use for Limitless Labels! I think it turned out quite well! I used Regal Rose, Certainly Celery, Almost Amethyst and Apricot Appeal for the "Friend" card.

On the "Best Wishes" card I used Beautiful Blooms and was inspired to do a sunflower-type image. I chose Chocolate Chip, Summer Sun and Wild Wasabi. This is actually my rough draft. The swap cards have chocolate chip "lacing" on the buttons and page pebbles in the flower centers.
